Comparison to Ambronite
Queal and Ambronite are two quite different companies that offer complete meals to everyone in Europe. They are both good options and nutritionally they are both complete. Each company has made their own choices regarding specific ingredients and nutritional composition. These are the differences you should consider when choosing which product to go with.
Both Ambronite and Queal are based on EU nutrition guidelines (EFSA). Both products are 100% vegetarian. Because Ambronite makes use of pea protein (as does Queal with the Vegan line) instead of whey protein, Ambronite is a 100% vegan as well. Besides lactose and gluten, Queal also contains soy. Ambronite contains nuts.
Because Queal believes that nutrition isn't only about the food you buy, you can also find a personalised dashboard when you place an order. Here you can find your environmental impact (which both companies greatly reduce), other statistics and recipes.
Ambronite uses organic ingredients and is somewhat different than other Complete Food companies. This does mean that the price is a few times more expensive than products from Queal.
Nutrients
Ambronite and Queal have a different nutritional profile. They have chosen to use different ingredients and therefore provide energy in a different way. Both do provide you with all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Although the profile of both drinkable meals looks similar, they are quite different. They are both full of nutrients, but they are made in different ways. Ambronite is made with more fresh (and dried) products, whilst Queal is made only from dried/powdered ingredients.
The biggest ingredient in both products is oats. They are a great source of complex carbohydrates, and also contain a lot of fibre, a bit of protein and some omega fatty acids. The grain oats in Ambronite are organic and with 52.6% of ingredients, the whole product is also an organic product.
The protein used in Queal is whey protein. This is derived from the cheese-making process. It provides you with a full amino acid profile (building blocks of protein). The protein in Ambronite comes from almonds and oats. This is also a good source, but of course not if you're allergic to nuts.
The micronutrients in Queal are balanced so that each of them is at least 33% of your daily reference intake (DRI) per meal. Where the oats, corn, whey and other ingredients take care of most vitamins and minerals in Queal, some are added via a custom vitamin and mineral mix.
Ambronite doesn’t add any vitamins next to the ones already in the natural ingredients. This means that not every meal (500 calories) has 25% of each vitamin and mineral. Minerals like magnesium and manganese are present in the natural ingredients at high amounts (90% per meal), and you should take care to not eat Ambronite for every meal to prevent negative health consequences (e.g. diarrhoea from too much magnesium).
Ingredients
Both Queal and Ambronite are made from real food. They use different ingredients, both make a complete meal. They use different ingredients, both make a complete meal. Both also use some flavouring to make the meals taste as good as possible.
Ingredients Ambronite: Oat protein, almond, oats, apple, coconut sugar, oat fiber, nettle leaf, spinach, flaxseed, chlorella, spirulina, cranberry, bilberry, black currant, sea buckthorn, nutritional yeast, mineral salt, guar gum, natural flavors
Ingredients Queal: Whole Grain Oats, Isomaltulose, Maltodextrin, (Whey or Rice&Pea) Protein, Soy Flour, Vegetable Oils, Vitamin & Mineral Mix, Flavour (10 variations) & Sweetener
Again the difference in ingredients is quite large and although some may argue that Ambronite is more natural (less processed), it's very expensive to make and sell a Complete Food this way.
Non-nutritional considerations
Queal and Ambronite are in friendly competition for selling the most amounts of meals to people all over the world. But the real competitor is malnutrition and the bad food habits that have taken over western countries.
Ambronite takes a more expensive (for consumers) route to improve these habits. The meals of Ambronite are more than 3 times more expensive than those of Queal, and therefore it’s not that available to the general population. Of course, for some the organic mix of ingredients might be worth the price.
Although everyone wants to eat a healthy meal, time constraints, knowledge or just plain laziness were barriers for people to change their habits. With Queal and Ambronite you know that you can have a complete meal at any time.
